"Historians have called it a Street Carnival . . . the men who first set it up called it an Agricultural Fair" The Greene County Fairgrounds is believed to be the only fairgrounds owned by a county entity in the State of Pennsylvania. Most others are owned by shareholders. The present site of the fairground is located between Route 21 (Roy Furman Highway) and Route 188 (Jefferson Road) in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. The success of our County Fair is the responsibility of the Greene County Fair Board. The Fair Board begins their diligent work even before the prior years fair comes to a close. Their work involves many hours of tedious tasks. Some of these tasks include the scheduling of fair events and activities, compiling sponsors, preparing & publishing schedules, arrangements for various judges and much more. An enormous amount of time and effort is expended by the members of the Fair Board ~~ ensuring that all scheduled entertainers and events occur without difficulties. ANNUAL 4-H HOG SHOW and AUCTION: ANNUAL 4-H HOG SHOW/AUCTION ~~ SATURDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2008 (for additional information, contact the County Extension Office on 724-627-3745) (greene.extension.psu.edu) 4-H Market Hog Show / Auction ~~ Due to the hot and humid weather conditions during the regular annual fair, our 4-H Hog Show is held over until the the 3rd Saturday of October. The 2008 event will mark the 39th annual Greene County 4-H Market Hog Show & Auction. Held in the show arena of the 4-H Barn at the county fairgrounds. The show begins at 1:00 P.M. and the auction will be at 7:00 P.M. The Market Hogs are ideal for filling your freezer top-grade pork.
